Spangled Drongo
Spangled Drongo, 1.8 km of cross-flow single track in Cornubia Forest, Logan City, was completed on 8 February 2014.
The trail was built in just one week with the assistance of Trailworx, Boystown Employment Enterprise and over 35 volunteers contributing their time in one big session on Saturday, 8 February to complete the trail by 9:45 am. A trail like this normally takes months or even most of a year to hand build. But this was the first machine built MTB trail in South East Queensland.
This project was made possible by a $12,841.40 Jupiters Community Benefit Fund grant the club was awarded, with the purpose of building a new trail that wasn’t solely dependent on the time of volunteer trail builders.
RATS Cycling Club also contributed an additional $1,925.00 to fund the completion of this trail.
This project has been an outstanding success for the club and the local mountain biking community and presents an effective model for future development of the trail network in South East Queensland.
Special thanks to all the contributors to this project including all the volunteers and South East QLD Trail Alliance for their support.
To top off a great week, the building of the trail was featured on ABC local news.
