Volunteering

GETTING INVOLVED

RATS Cycling Club is completely run by volunteers, so we are always looking for helpers. There are administrative positions, ride leader positions, trail care coordination positions, race track preparation positions, race day positions and more. If you have a passion for something cycling-oriented, we’ll support you and create a position. That’s how cyclocross got started at the club. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills and meet new people in a supportive ‘safe to fail’ environment.

If you want to do some cross-training and get dirty building and maintaining some great trails, then join us at our regular trail care sessions, organised largely through the Logan Community Trailcare Association (LCTA). This is a great way to learn about trail design, and there is a real feel-good factor in contributing to the mountain biking community. Trail care is quite social and is a good way to meet like-minded people. We usually have a BBQ at the end of the session. Kids are welcome to come along with their parents. We’ll find useful jobs for them too, as it is not all heavy work.

If you need more information about volunteering or club activities, have a look at our Contact page.

    VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION PROGRAM

Club membership is reimbursed for volunteers that make regular or substantial one-off contributions to the club. This can include, but is not limited to:

    • Serving on the committee or a sub-committee
    • Trail care co-ordination
    • Regular event preparation and on-the-day event volunteering
    • Leading regular social rides
    • Trail network development or general advocacy
    • Grant writing
    • Media: social media, club e-newsletter

Club members making substantial contributions aren’t obligated to accept a free membership but we do think it’s a good way for the club to acknowledge their support where possible.

A member may self-nominate or nominate another member using this form. A nomination using this form is the only way to ensure a member is recognised in this way.

The committee reviews nominations at the monthly committee meetings and will advise the nominator and successful nominees of the outcome.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact a member of the committee.
