Advocacy for Trails and Riders
Since 1993 we have helped establish and maintain legal MTB trails working alongside council and land managers.
Advocacy is one of the core things we do alongside Racing, Trail care and Social rides.
We work with local councils and land managers to expand and protect legal riding opportunities, and to promote mountain biking as a healthy, family friendly and environmentally responsible activity.

What advocacy means for RATS
- Securing and protecting legal mountain bike trail networks in bushland areas.
- Building long‑term relationships with Logan City Council, Redland City Council and Queensland Parks and Forests staff.
- Championing sustainable trail design that protects high‑value conservation areas while delivering fun, modern riding experiences.
- Ensuring riders have a voice when plans are made about parks, conservation areas and recreation.
Why advocacy matters
Good advocacy means more places to ride, better‑designed trails and stronger relationships with the people who manage our bushland.
- Keeps access open by reducing illegal trail building and encouraging shared responsibility for the land.
- Helps councils justify investment in MTB facilities as part of healthy, active communities.
- Protects important habitats by focusing riding on sustainable, purpose‑built trails.
- Makes it easier for new riders, kids and families to discover mountain biking close to home.

How riders can get involved
You don’t need special skills to support MTB advocacy. Every club member, volunteer and supportive voice strengthens our push for better trails for everyone.
- Join RATS and add your name to a strong, organised voice for mountain biking.
- Come to trail care days and show land managers that riders care about the places we ride.
- Respond to consultation surveys and public notices we share, so decision‑makers hear from riders.
- Share our updates, ride responsibly and encourage others to respect trail rules and closures.
